How We Help
Reading
Fluent reading and a love of books lay the groundwork for a lifetime of learning and curiosity. But it's so hard to access the joy of reading if the physical acts of sounding out, tracking, and recognizing sight words are laborious and frustrating.
We help bring automaticity and ease to the mechanics so that your child has enough cognitive real estate left over to enjoy the story, even when they're the one doing the reading.
Writing
Writing is just a way for your child to express himself. We know your child has a lot to say. He just needs the right support to get out of that deer-in-headlights feeling of a blank page. The cool thing about writing is that your child can make ANYTHING come to life -- that hybrid dragon vulture he dreamed up, the coolest Lego building he can imagine, a day in the life of a slug. When your child is allowed to write about what he loves and feels supported with the mechanics, he realizes writing is just putting down on paper all those great things he actually does have to say
Comprehension
The joy of reading doesn't come from being really good at sounding out words - it comes from the movie you make in your mind's eye as you turn the pages. We know how to ensure that your child is visualizing what they've read so that all the juicy details come to life for them. Watch them develop a love of stories, curiosity, deeper critical thinking skills, and clearer expressive language as their visual comprehension turns on.
